Community Updates¶
If you’d like to stay up to date on the community and development of Niquests, there are several options:
GitHub¶
The best way to track the development of Niquests is through the GitHub repo.
Release History¶
3.19.1 (2026-06-08)¶
Fixed
Relative
Locationredirects no longer raiseMissingSchemawhen the request targets a synthetic scheme such aswsgi://orasgi://. (#406)
3.19.0 (2026-06-01)¶
Added
SessionandAsyncSessionconstructors now acceptparams, cookies, proxies, verifyandcertso that per-request defaults can be configured at initialization, consistently withheadersandauth. (#400) Ease forward the migration from httpx for interested users.A plain
http.cookiejar.CookieJar(or a mapping) provided ascookiesis now coerced into aRequestsCookieJar. TheSession/AsyncSessionconstructor always coerces (sosession.cookies.set(...)works), while at the request level an unknownCookieJarsubclass (e.g.MozillaCookieJaror any file-backed/custom jar) is left untouched to preserve its behavior. (#401, #404)Support for the alternative TLS backend BoringSSL via the
utlsextra. Niquests now offer a first-class TLS browser impersonation without ever-changing your http client. It is automatically done (e.g. negotiated) once the extra is installed. You will need to keep it regularly updated so that you have the latest TLS specs of modern browsers.SessionandAsyncSessionconstructors now acceptallow_incoming_cookies(defaults toTrue). Set it toFalseto ignore every cookie sent by the remote peer (viaSet-Cookie) so that nothing is merged into the session jar, including cookies carried across redirect hops. Outgoing cookies you set yourself are still emitted.Session.request/AsyncSession.request(and the verb shortcuts) now accept anoverride_schemekeyword argument. When abase_urlis set on the Session, it override the scheme of the final (merged) URL just before the adapter is picked, so you can target a different scheme (e.g.sse,ws/wss, optionally with an implementation suffix likesse+unix) without retyping the full URL. (#325)
Changed
The
cookiesattribute ofSession,AsyncSessionandResponseis now always typed asRequestsCookieJarinstead ofRequestsCookieJar | CookieJar. This restores the ergonomic mapping interface (e.g.session.cookies.set(...)) when using static type checkers. (#401, #404)This is not a runtime breaking change: reading
.cookiesis unchanged, and a nativeCookieJaris still accepted everywhere it is passed as an argument (it is coerced when relevant). We do, however, acknowledge a static-typing trade-off: assigning a custom/non-RequestsCookieJarjar directly to the attribute (e.g.session.cookies = MozillaCookieJar(...)) now makes type checkers such as mypy complain, since the attribute is annotated asRequestsCookieJar. The assignment keeps working at runtime; if you rely on it, add a# type: ignore. We chose narrowing on purpose the predominant path is thatRequestsCookieJaris expected while subclasses (custom implementation) are a niche usage.CaseInsensitiveDictis now generic over its key and value types (CaseInsensitiveDict[_KT, _VT], mirroringdict/Mapping), andResponse.headers/Response.trailersare typed asCaseInsensitiveDict[str, str]. Reading a response header (e.g.response.headers["Content-Type"]) now yieldsstrinstead ofstr | bytes, removing the need for acast/assertto use the headers as a plain string mapping with static type checkers. (#401)This is purely a typing improvement with no runtime change: the class still subclasses
collections.abc.MutableMapping(it merely also gainstyping.Generic), so the Python 3.7 floor and the existing behavior are preserved, and no new dependency is introduced. UnsubscriptedCaseInsensitiveDictkeeps its historicalstr | byteskey/value types, so existing annotations are unaffected.
3.18.8 (2026-05-10)¶
Fixed
Avoid starting the background idle watcher/task in session-less requests.
pre_requesthook not dispatched when passing throughSession.send. (#389)Repeated/redundant “is_ip_private” in CRL/OCSP algorithm. Now cached.
Response.iter_contentinline typing definition missed allowingNone. (#392)
3.18.7 (2026-04-28)¶
Fixed
Session/AsyncSession with
multiplexed=True(i.e. lazy response resolution) performance improvement. Up to 20% gain.
3.18.6 (2026-04-13)¶
Fixed
AsyncResponse aenter is not awaitable. (#374)
3.18.5 (2026-04-10)¶

3.18.1 (2026-03-09)¶
Fixed
Module ‘importlib’ has no attribute ‘util’. (#344)
3.18.0 (2026-03-09)¶
Added
Experimental support for WASM through Pyodide. (#219) Niquests should be able to automatically operate in the browser or a Node interpreter. We tested Chrome (v137+), Firefox (v131+), and Node (v22+). You must enable JSPI if not already available by default.
Passing
authparameter throughSessionorAsyncSessionconstructor. (#337)Automatic WebSocket and SSE for ASGI and Automatic SSE for WSGI.
Automatic WebSocket and SSE for Unix socket through
psse+unix://andws+unix://schemes. (#325)

Coroutine
tellnever awaited when using aiofiles file wrapper or alike in async. (#334)Missing typing overload for
AsyncSession.sendmethod. (#335)
Misc
Improved import delay performance by delaying some dependencies load (notably qh3 and wassima). (#333)
Made
niquests.typing.TLSVerifyTypewithout a lazyPathLikereference for Python 3.9+ (#324)
3.17.0 (2026-01-16)¶
Added
Native support for
http+unixconnections without 3rd party support in both sync and async context. (#315)ASGI (e.g. fastapi) app direct usage within
AsyncSessionand WSGI (e.g. Flask) app direct usage withinSession. (#316)Passing
hooksdirectly in theSessionorAsyncSessionconstructor. (#321)Rate limiter helpers
LeakyBucketLimiterandTokenBucketLimiterthat can be passed directly to thehooksparameter ofSessionorAsyncSessionfor automatic request throttling. (#321)
Fixed
Method
getofCaseInsensitiveDictambiguous return type. (#288)More precise type definitions for PathLike, and IO. (#290)
Changed
Our typing definitions are now publicly exposed via
niquests.typing. This aims to considerably ease extending Niquests.
Misc
Restore function
utils.guess_json_utffrom Requests era. (#313)Making request with empty url when base_url is set don’t add trailing slash at the end. (#319)
3.16.1 (2025-12-23)¶
Fixed
Accidental deadlock on a specific case within the revocation checks in sync mode (threads).
3.16.0 (2025-12-23)¶
Added
Custom strategies for TLS revocation check per
SessionorAsyncSessionvia the newrevocation_configurationparameter that takes aRevocationConfigurationobject.Hook can now be created via a custom class. You may now inherit from
niquests.LifecycleHookorniquests.AsyncLifecycleHookdepending on your use case. This should considerably ease the scenario where you need to create complex hooks.Session underlying pooling state inspecting through
repr(my_session)for debugging purposes.Exposed
ServerSentEventin top level package imports to ease SSE related developments.AsyncHTTPDigestAuthcounterpart ofHTTPDigestAuthfor async usage.Shortcut to pass default headers via
SessionorAsyncSessionconstruction.
Fixed
In high concurrency scenarii the revocation check may run for multiple newly acquired connection causing a performance slowdown at warmup.
3.15.2 (2025-08-16)¶
Fixed
The return type of
CaseInsensitiveDict.items()could be alistinstead of an expectedtuple. (#276)Omitting hooks (keys) in
Session.hooksdict causing an error at merge with request specific hooks.CRL cache not persisted when pickling
Session.
3.15.1 (2025-08-13)¶
Changed
Disabled OCSP and CRL signature check when either the target site is located in a private network OR at least one proxy is used. See #274 for the rationale behind it.
Fixed
Using Happy Eyeballs algorithm in async could trigger a warning about OCSP/CRL check in strict mode while no error really occurred. This was due to async cancellation propagated to tasks that did not finish through after getting a valid connection usable.
3.15.0 (2025-08-11)¶
Security
Prevent MITM attack with OCSP. Previous to that version we did not check the signature against the issuer public key. While this sort of attack are indubitably rare, we prefer encouraging users to upgrade as soon as possible.
Added
Support for CRLs in addition to our OCSP solution when the peer certificate does not support OCSP. It acts as a fallback method to check for the revocation status. This comes (in response to) shortly after the removal of Let’s Encrypt OCSP responder. We are investigating if we should implement a boolean toggle to let the user prefer CRL instead of OCSP by default in a next version. Give us your ideas and feedbacks before!
Explicit support for Python 3.14
Changed
wassimaupperbound to version 2 that includes various QoL improvements and stopped relying on Rust. The package is now pure Python and ships with the CCADB store as a fallback.urllib3-futurelower bound version is raised to 2.13.903 for newest requirements.4 failures (e.g. timeout) in a row with OCSP or CRL will now result in silently disabling the revocation check when strict mode is disabled.
Fixed
OCSP caching was not used when a redirection (3XX) occurred and following_redirect is enabled.
Removed
PicoTLS module attached to our OCSP extension in favor of solely doing AIA fetching for the intermediate. The module was error-prone (silently failing) and often did not go through his main goal of getting the intermediate. Now that we have a proper signature verification algorithm available we can enable AIA fetching by default.
3.14.1 (2025-04-19)¶
Fixed
Prevent accessing lazy attr if it does not exist (e.g. requests_cache mixin) (#243)
Session hooks are not fired for the pre_request hook. (#242)
OCSP redundant calls made from session-less requests.
3.14.0 (2025-03-30)¶
Added
“Repr” for our HTTPAdapter and AsyncHTTPAdapter for debugging purposes. (#201) (#227)
Top level
aget, apost, aput, …, as the asynchronous counterpart ofniquests.get,niquests.post, …Global timeout configuration per
SessionorAsyncSession. LikeSession(timeout=10). (#232)iter_rawmethod inResponseandAsyncResponsein order to retrieve content from remote without decompression. (#233)
Fixed
Missing awaited coroutine in
AsyncResponse.close(...). (#231)Attempt to call
closecoroutine (urllib3 raw Response) in async mode when the response is not awaitable.
3.13.1 (2025-03-09)¶
Added
Internal shortcut to urllib3-future as
niquests.packages.urllib3. This immediately helps end-user migrating from Requests to Niquests and avoid the confusion aroundurllib3andurllib3-future. The package own code benefit from it.idna,charset_normalizer(+ aliased aschardet) can be used also.
Misc
The documentation is improved. Especially around sync/async examples and migration snippets.
3.13.0 (2025-02-06)¶
Removed
Dependency on
idna. Since qh3 version 1.4, we can rely on their internal idna encoder that does not require any external dependencies. This change does not affect the feature on international domain names. Ifidnais installed, it will be used instead.Dependency on
kiss-headers. We decided to vendor kiss-headers into Niquests for several reasons. The principal one is that the project is stable and require next to no maintenance. And pulling extra dependencies affect some end-users. We are in the process of measuring potential interest for kiss-headers models. We may decide to remove its support completely in a next major version.
3.12.3 (2025-01-28)¶
Changed
Relaxed strict compliance on JSON parsing. We brought strict compliance into Niquests, a response must explicitly set
Content-Type: application/jsonor alike prior to attempt parsing the JSON string. We decided to relax that constraint as old and bad-behaving server may send JSON with missing or broken Content-Type.
3.12.2 (2025-01-22)¶
Fixed
Parsing of special scheme that exceed 9 characters on rare custom adapters.
Changed
Default
Content-Typefor json payloads changed fromapplication/json; charset="utf-8"toapplication/json;charset=utf-8. While the previous default was valid, this is the preferred value according to RFC9110. (#204)
Misc
Removed a useless hasattr control to support older version of urllib3-future (<2.5).
Updated our pre-commit configuration and reformatted files accordingly.
3.12.1 (2025-01-03)¶
Fixed
Certificate validation may end up in error in highly concurrent environment using the experimental freethreaded build. This was due to a racing condition in our “verify” caching logic (e.g. avoid creating duplicate ssl_context where one is sufficient). The GIL prevented this issue.
3.12.0 (2025-01-01)¶
Fixed
Restoring the state of
AsyncSessionthrough pickle.Typing definition for query parameter not accepting
Noneas values. (#193)Overload incorrect definition for
AsyncSession::get. (#192)
Added
Support for
PathLikeobjects forverifyparameter when passing a ca bundle path. (#194)Caching and restoring OCSP state through pickling
SessionorAsyncSession.Caching and restoring QUIC known compatible hosts through pickling
SessionorAsyncSession.Shortcut convenient access to
RetryandTimeoutconfiguration objects in top-level import.
3.11.4 (2024-12-23)¶
Fixed
Invoking
niquestsin more than one event loop, even if no loop concurrence occurs. (#190) The faulty part was the shared OCSP cache that was automatically bound the first event loop and could not be shared across more than one loop. Keep in mind that Niquests async is task safe within a single event loop. Sharing a single AsyncSession across more than one event loop is unpredictable. We’ve waived that limitation by binding the ocsp cache to a singleSession. (both sync & async)Undesirable
socket.timeouterror coming from the ocsp checker when running Python < 3.9.
3.11.3 (2024-12-13)¶
Fixed
Static type checker getting confused around
AsyncSessionand attached overloads (AsyncResponseorResponse). (#185)
Changed
Default keepalive (HTTP/2, and HTTP/3) changed to 1 hour. In conformance with urllib3-future.
Removed
Automatic resolution of pending lazy responses if there are too many of them. Previously, we hardcoded a limit of 128 * NUM_CONN_POOL maximum inflight (aka. unresolved/lazy) response. This was unrealistic due to a number of factors like (but not limited to): A) remote peers can choose at will the max streams. B) we can have multiple pool with multiple (varying) max capacities. C) retrieving max streams per pool per conn is a very costly procedure (in terms of performance). We will revisit this later on. You still can set
max_in_flight_multiplexedin yourHTTPAdapterto restore this broken behavior.
3.11.2 (2024-11-29)¶
Fixed
SSE request block IO by default. Integrate better with urllib3-future new SSE web extension.
Passing a list instead of tuple for multipart file upload ends in failure.
Changed
urllib3-future lower bound version is raised to 2.12.900 to ensure built-in support for SSE.
help script now yield if websocket extra is present and actual version.
exception raised when no adapter were found now include a hint when the intent was websocket and extra isn’t installed.

Support for asynchronous auth callables.
Support for asynchronous bodies through
AsyncIterablethat yield either bytes or str.Support for purposely excluding a domain/port from connecting to QUIC/HTTP3 via the
quic_cache_layerproperty ofSession. In order to excludecloudflare.comfrom HTTP3 auto-upgrade: .. code-block:: pythonfrom niquests import Session
s = Session() s.quic_cache_layer.exclude_domain(“cloudflare.com”)
Fixed
auth argument not accepting a function according to static type checkers. (#133)
RequestsCookieJar having a lock in
AsyncSession. Its effect has been nullified to improve performances.
Changed
urllib3-future lower bound version is raised to 2.8.902
3.7.0 (2024-06-24)¶
Added
TransferProgress tracking in Response when downloading using
stream=Truebased on the Content-Length. (#127) There’s no easy way to track the “real” amount of bytes consumed using “iter_content” when the remote is sending a compressed body. This change makes it possible to track the amount of bytes consumed. TheResponseobject now contain a property nameddownload_progressthat is eitherNoneor aTransferProgressobject.HTTP/2 with prior knowledge over TLS or via an unencrypted connection.
disable_http1toggle is now available through yourSessionconstructor. In consequence, you may leverage all HTTP/2 capabilities like multiplexing using a plain (e.g. non-TLS) socket. You may enable/disable any protocols per Session object (but not all of them at once!). In non-TLS connections, you have to keep one of HTTP/1.1 or HTTP/2 enabled. Otherwise, one of HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2 or HTTP/3. ARuntimeErrormay be thrown if no protocol can be used in a given context.
Changed
Relax main API constraint in get, head, options and delete methods / functions by accepting kwargs.
urllib3-future lower bound version is raised to 2.8.900
3.6.7 (2024-06-19)¶

Reformatted error messages in our OCSP module for better readability.
Added real test cases for our OCSP module to ensure its reliability.
3.6.6 (2024-05-27)¶
Fixed
ReasonFlag not properly translated to readable text when peer or intermediate certificate is revoked.
3.6.5 (2024-05-22)¶
Fixed
Support
localhostas a valid domain for cookies. The standard library does not allow this special domain. Researches showed that a valid domain should have at least two dots (e.g. abc.com. and xyz.tld. but not com.). Public suffixes cannot be used as a cookie domain for security reasons, but aslocalhostisn’t one we are explicitly allowing it. Reported in https://github.com/httpie/cli/issues/602RequestsCookieJarset a default policy that circumvent that limitation, if you specified a custom cookie policy then this fix won’t be applied.
Changed
Lazy load the OCSP extension in order to improve the import performance.
Removed
Class variable
disable_threadinAsyncSessionthat is no longer relevant since the native asyncio implementation. (PR #122)
3.6.4 (2024-05-16)¶
Changed

Fixed
Fixed encoding data with None values and other objects. This was a regression introduced in our v3. #119
Changed
Various minor performance improvements.

3.3.2 (2023-11-19)¶
Fixed
Hooks that does not accept keyword arguments are rejected.
Applying
max_fetchtoSession.gather(...)did not prevent the adapter to drain all pending responses.Closed session having unconsumed multiplexed requests leaked an exception from urllib3.future.
Changed
Aligned
qh3version constraint inhttp3extra with urllib3.future.
3.3.1 (2023-11-18)¶
Fixed
Warning filter (ignore) for
DependencyWarningwithin urllib3.future wasn’t applied in time.
3.3.0 (2023-11-18)¶
Added
Maximum of (lazy) response(s) to be resolved when calling
Session.gather(..., max_fetch = ...). Specifying a valid int tomax_fetchwill stop right after having resolved the right amount of responses.
Changed
urllib3.future minimal version raised to 2.3.900 to leverage the fallback top-level package
urllib3_future.
Fixed
Error when having accidentally overridden
urllib3.futureby an external dependency.Undesirable warning yielded by
cryptographybecause of a Microsoft root certificate. “Parsed a negative serial number, which is disallowed by RFC 5280.”Take into account newly registered custom CA when using
wassima.register_ca(...).
Removed
Dependency check at runtime for
urllib3. There’s no more check and warnings at runtime for that subject. Ever.

Fixed
Compatibility with some third-party mock tools.
Changed
Relax IllegalHeader constraint when value is an integer, or float.
3.2.3 (2023-11-11)¶
Fixed
Overall performance improvement.
Racing condition in
HTTPAdapterwith multiplexed enabled while in threads.
Removed
Checks for header validity as it is duplicated (upstream does it already). Warning: Function
check_header_validityhas been removed. It was not public in the first place.
Changed
Cached proxies from environment to avoid unnecessary scan on each request.
3.2.2 (2023-11-08)¶
Changed
Enforced a maximum in-flight request when using multiplexed connections. Default to 124 per connections so, actually 1240 per Session (default is 10 connections). This can be overridden in our
HTTPAdapterfor advanced users. This limit was changed due to constraint inqh3, for now we have no way to dynamically set this. We choose the safest lowest common value in h2, and qh3.
Fixed
Performance issues in
get_environ_proxies().
3.2.1 (2023-11-06)¶
Fixed
Performance issues in HTTP/2, and HTTP/3, with or without multiplexed connections.
Changed
Enforced a maximum in-flight request when using multiplexed connections. Default to 200 per connections so, actually 2000 per Session (default is 10 connections). This can be overridden in our
HTTPAdapterfor advanced users.
3.2.0 (2023-11-05)¶
Changed
Changed method
raise_for_statusin classResponseto return self in order to make the call chainable. Idea taken from upstream https://github.com/psf/requests/issues/6215Bump minimal version supported for
urllib3.futureto 2.2.901 for recently introduced added features (below).
Added
Support for multiplexed connection in HTTP/2 and HTTP/3. Concurrent requests per connection are now a thing, in synchronous code. This feature is the real advantage of using binaries HTTP protocols. It is disabled by default and can be enabled through
Session(multiplexed=True), eachResponseobject will be ‘lazy’ loaded. Accessing anything from returnedResponsewill block the code until target response is retrieved. UseSession.gather()to efficiently receive responses. You may also give a list of responses that you want to load.Example A) Emitting concurrent requests and loading them via
Session.gather()from niquests import Session from time import time s = Session(multiplexed=True) before = time() responses = [] responses.append( s.get("https://pie.dev/delay/3") ) responses.append( s.get("https://pie.dev/delay/1") ) s.gather() print(f"waited {time() - before} second(s)") # will print 3s
Example B) Emitting concurrent requests and loading them via direct access
from niquests import Session from time import time s = Session(multiplexed=True) before = time() responses = [] responses.append( s.get("https://pie.dev/delay/3") ) responses.append( s.get("https://pie.dev/delay/1") ) # internally call gather with self (Response) print(responses[0].status_code) # 200! :! Hidden call to s.gather(responses[0]) print(responses[1].status_code) # 200! print(f"waited {time() - before} second(s)") # will print 3s
You have nothing to do, everything from streams to connection pooling are handled automagically!
Support for in-memory intermediary/client certificate (mTLS). Thanks for support within
urllib3.future. Unfortunately this feature may not be available depending on your platform. Passingcert=(a, b, c)where a or/and b contains directly the certificate is supported. See https://urllib3future.readthedocs.io/en/latest/advanced-usage.html#in-memory-client-mtls-certificate for more information. It is proposed to circumvent recent pyOpenSSL complete removal.Detect if a new (stable) version is available when invoking
python -m niquests.helpand propose it for installation.Add the possibility to disable a specific protocol (e.g. HTTP/2, and/or HTTP/3) when constructing
Session. Like so:s = Session(disable_http2=..., disable_http3=...)both options are set toFalse, thus letting them enabled. urllib3.future does not permit to disable HTTP/1.1 for now.Support passing a single
strtoauth=...in addition to actually supported types. It will be treated as a Bearer token, by default to theAuthorizationheader. It’s a shortcut. You may keep your own token prefix in given string (e.g. if not Bearer).Added
MultiplexingErrorexception for anything related to failure with a multiplexed connection.Added async support through
AsyncSessionthat utilize an underlying thread pool.from niquests import AsyncSession import asyncio from time import time async def emit() -> None: responses = [] async with AsyncSession(multiplexed=True) as s: responses.append(await s.get("https://pie.dev/get")) responses.append(await s.get("https://pie.dev/head")) await s.gather() print(responses) async def main() -> None: foo = asyncio.create_task(emit()) bar = asyncio.create_task(emit()) await foo await bar if __name__ == "__main__": before = time() asyncio.run(main()) print(time() - before)
Or without
multiplexingif you want to keep multiple connections open per host per request.from niquests import AsyncSession import asyncio from time import time async def emit() -> None: responses = [] async with AsyncSession() as s: responses.append(await s.get("https://pie.dev/get")) responses.append(await s.get("https://pie.dev/head")) print(responses) async def main() -> None: foo = asyncio.create_task(emit()) bar = asyncio.create_task(emit()) await foo await bar if __name__ == "__main__": before = time() asyncio.run(main()) print(time() - before)
You may disable concurrent threads by setting
AsyncSession.no_thread = True.
Security
Certificate revocation verification may not be fired for subsequents requests in a specific condition (redirection).
3.1.4 (2023-10-23)¶
Fixed
Static type checker not accepting iterable[str] for data. A fix in urllib3.future allows it since v2.1.902.
Unattended override of manually provided Authorization if
.netrcexisted with an eligible entry. Taken from closed PR https://github.com/psf/requests/pull/6555 and initially raised in https://github.com/psf/requests/issues/3929
Added
oheaders property in
Request, andPreparedRequestin addition toResponse.
3.1.3 (2023-10-19)¶
Fixed

3.1.2 (2023-10-16)¶
Fixed
Static type checker not accepting list[str] in values for argument data.
Misc
Changed the documentation theme by furo.
Added
IPv6 support in the
NO_PROXYenvironment variable or in the proxies (key no_proxy) argument. Patch taken from idle upstream PR https://github.com/psf/requests/pull/5953Preemptively register a website to be HTTP/3 capable prior to the first TLS over TCP handshake. You can do so by doing like:
from niquests import Session s = Session() s.quic_cache_layer.add_domain("cloudflare.com")
Passed data will be converted to form-data if headers have a Content-Type header and is set to
multipart/form-data. Otherwise, by default, it is still urlencoded. If you specified a boundary, it will be used, otherwise, a random one will be generated.
3.1.1 (2023-10-11)¶
Fixed
Fixed
Transfer-Encodingwrongfully added to headers when body is actually of length 0. Due to ambiguous return ofsuper_lenin niquests internals.Fixed accepting three-valued tuple for Timeout (connect, read, total) in addition of known (connect, read) tuple.
3.1.0 (2023-10-10)¶
Misc
Static typing has been improved to provide a better development experience.
Added
Certificate revocation verification via the OCSP protocol.
This feature is broadly available and is enabled by default when
verify=True. We decided to follow what browsers do by default, so Niquests follows by being non-strict. OCSP responses are expected to arrive in less than 200ms, otherwise ignored (e.g. OCSP is dropped). Niquests keeps in-memory the results until the size exceed 2,048 entries, then an algorithm choose an entry to be deleted (oldest request or the first one that ended in error). You can at your own discretion enable strict OCSP checks by passing the environment variable
NIQUESTS_STRICT_OCSPwith anything inside but0. In strict mode the maximum delay for response passes from 200ms to 1,000ms and raises an error or explicit warning. In non-strict mode, this security measure will be deactivated automatically if your usage is unreasonable. e.g. Making a hundred of requests to a hundred of domains, thus consuming resources that should have been allocated to browser users. This was made available for users with a limited target of domains to get a complementary security measure.
Unless in strict-mode, the proxy configuration will be respected when given, as long as it specify a plain
httpproxy. This is meant for people who want privacy. This feature may not be available if the
cryptographypackage is missing from your environment. Verify the availability after Niquests upgrade by runningpython -m niquests.help.There is several downside of using OCSP, Niquests knows it. It is not a silver bullet solution. But better than nothing. It does not apply to HTTPS proxies themselves. For now.
Add property
ocsp_verifiedin bothPreparedRequest, andResponseto have a clue on the post handshake verification. Will be
Noneif no verification took place,Trueif the verification leads to a confirmation from the OCSP server that the certificate is valid,Falseotherwise.
Changed
Bump lower version requirement for
urllib3.futureto 2.1.900 to ensure compatibility with newer features.Internal in-memory QUIC capabilities is now thread safe and limited to 12,288 entries.
Pickling a
Sessionobject no-longer dump adapters or the QUIC in-memory capabilities, they are reset on setstate.
Fixed
conn_infowas unset if the response came after a redirect.
3.0.2 (2023-10-01)¶
Changed
niquests.help show more information about direct dependencies.
urllib3.future minimal version raised to 2.0.936 due to an important fixes on the QUIC layer.
wassima minimal version raised to 1.0.1 in order to support certifi as fallback in rare case.
3.0.1 (2023-09-26)¶
Fixed
Method
headnot acceptingallow_redirectnamed argument.PreparedRequestdid not uppercase the HTTP verb when constructed manually.
Changed
Minor code refactor in the
text, andjsonmethods within theResponseclass to be more concise.
3.0.0 (2023-09-24)¶
Added
Static type annotations thorough the whole package.
certargument for client authentication with certificate can now pass the password/passphrase using a 3-values tuple (cert, key, password). The three parameters in the tuple must be of typestr.verifyargument behavior has been extended and now accept your CA bundle asstrinstead of a path. It also accepts your CA bundle asbytesdirectly. conn_infoto thePreparedRequestandResponsethat hold a reference to aConnectionInfo. This class exposes the following properties:certificate_der(bytes),certificate_dict(dict) as provided by the standard library (ssl),destination_address(tuple[ipAddress, portNumber]),cipher(str),tls_version(TLSVersion), andhttp_version.Two hooks, namely
pre_sendandpre_request. Thepre_requestevent is fired just after the initial construction of aPreparedRequestinstance. Finally, thepre_sendwill be triggered just after picking a (live) connection for your request. The two events receive aPreparedRequestinstance.
Changed
Calling the method
jsonfromResponsewhen no encoding was provided no longer relies on internal encoding inference. We fall back oncharset-normalizerwith a limited set of charsets allowed (UTF-8/16/32 or ASCII).No longer will the
textmethod fromResponsereturn str if content cannot be decoded. It returns None instead. If specified charset in content-type does not exist (LookupError) the
textmethod fromResponsewill rely on charset detection. If specified charset in content-type is not made for text decoding (e.g. base64), the
textmethod fromResponsereturns None. With above four changes, the
jsonmethod will raiseRequestsJSONDecodeErrorwhen the payload (body) cannot be decoded.Passing invalid
filesdescription no longer just skip invalid entries, it raisesValueErrorfrom now on.Non-str HTTP-Verb are refused.
Passing

Warning filter for
charset_normalizeras it was removed long ago.
2.31.0 (2023-05-22)¶
Security
Versions of Requests between v2.3.0 and v2.30.0 are vulnerable to potential forwarding of
Proxy-Authorizationheaders to destination servers when following HTTPS redirects. When proxies are defined with user info (https://user:pass@proxy:8080), Requests will construct a
Proxy-Authorizationheader that is attached to the request to authenticate with the proxy. In cases where Requests receives a redirect response, it previously reattached the
Proxy-Authorizationheader incorrectly, resulting in the value being sent through the tunneled connection to the destination server. Users who rely on defining their proxy credentials in the URL are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Requests 2.31.0+ to prevent unintentional leakage and rotate their proxy credentials once the change has been fully deployed.Users who do not use a proxy or do not supply their proxy credentials through the user information portion of their proxy URL are not subject to this vulnerability.
Full details can be read in our Github Security Advisory and CVE-2023-32681.

Restored the
requests.packagesnamespace for compatibility reasons.Bugfix for
urllib3version parsing.
Note: code that was written to import against the
requests.packages namespace previously will have to import code that
rests at this module-level now.
For example:
from requests.packages.urllib3.poolmanager import PoolManager
Will need to be re-written to be:
from requests.packages import urllib3
urllib3.poolmanager.PoolManager
Or, even better:
from urllib3.poolmanager import PoolManager

2.14.0 (2017-05-09)¶
Improvements
It is now possible to pass
no_proxyas a key to theproxiesdictionary to provide handling similar to theNO_PROXYenvironment variable. When users provide invalid paths to certificate bundle files or directories Requests now raises
IOError, rather than failing at the time of the HTTPS request with a fairly inscrutable certificate validation error. The behavior of
SessionRedirectMixinwas slightly altered.resolve_redirectswill now detect a redirect by callingget_redirect_target(response)instead of directly queryingResponse.is_redirectandResponse.headers['location']. Advanced users will be able to process malformed redirects more easily.Changed the internal calculation of elapsed request time to have higher resolution on Windows.
Added
win_inet_ptonas conditional dependency for the[socks]extra on Windows with Python 2.7.Changed the proxy bypass implementation on Windows: the proxy bypass check doesn’t use forward and reverse DNS requests anymore
URLs with schemes that begin with
httpbut are nothttporhttpsno longer have their host parts forced to lowercase.
Bugfixes
Much improved handling of non-ASCII
Locationheader values in redirects. FewerUnicodeDecodeErrorsare encountered on Python 2, and Python 3 now correctly understands that Latin-1 is unlikely to be the correct encoding. If an attempt to
seekfile to find out its length fails, we now appropriately handle that by aborting our content-length calculations.Restricted
HTTPDigestAuthto only respond to auth challenges made on 4XX responses, rather than to all auth challenges.Fixed some code that was firing
DeprecationWarningon Python 3.6.The dismayed person emoticon (
/o\\) no longer has a big head. I’m sure this is what you were all worrying about most.
Miscellaneous
Updated bundled urllib3 to v1.21.1.

2.12.4 (2016-12-14)¶
Bugfixes
Fixed regression from 2.12.2 where non-string types were rejected in the basic auth parameters. While support for this behaviour has been re-added, the behaviour is deprecated and will be removed in the future.
2.12.3 (2016-12-01)¶
Bugfixes
Fixed regression from v2.12.1 for URLs with schemes that begin with “http”. These URLs have historically been processed as though they were HTTP-schemed URLs, and so have had parameters added. This was removed in v2.12.2 in an overzealous attempt to resolve problems with IDNA-encoding those URLs. This change was reverted: the other fixes for IDNA-encoding have been judged to be sufficient to return to the behaviour Requests had before v2.12.0.
2.12.2 (2016-11-30)¶
Bugfixes
Fixed several issues with IDNA-encoding URLs that are technically invalid but which are widely accepted. Requests will now attempt to IDNA-encode a URL if it can but, if it fails, and the host contains only ASCII characters, it will be passed through optimistically. This will allow users to opt-in to using IDNA2003 themselves if they want to, and will also allow technically invalid but still common hostnames.
Fixed an issue where URLs with leading whitespace would raise
InvalidSchemaerrors.Fixed an issue where some URLs without the HTTP or HTTPS schemes would still have HTTP URL preparation applied to them.
Fixed an issue where Unicode strings could not be used in basic auth.
Fixed an issue encountered by some Requests plugins where constructing a Response object would cause
Response.contentto raise anAttributeError.
2.12.1 (2016-11-16)¶
Bugfixes
Updated setuptools ‘security’ extra for the new PyOpenSSL backend in urllib3.
Miscellaneous
Updated bundled urllib3 to 1.19.1.
2.12.0 (2016-11-15)¶
Improvements
Updated support for internationalized domain names from IDNA2003 to IDNA2008. This updated support is required for several forms of IDNs and is mandatory for .de domains.
Much improved heuristics for guessing content lengths: Requests will no longer read an entire
StringIOinto memory.Much improved logic for recalculating
Content-Lengthheaders forPreparedRequestobjects.Improved tolerance for file-like objects that have no
tellmethod but do have aseekmethod.Anything that is a subclass of
Mappingis now treated like a dictionary by thedata=keyword argument.Requests now tolerates empty passwords in proxy credentials, rather than stripping the credentials.
If a request is made with a file-like object as the body and that request is redirected with a 307 or 308 status code, Requests will now attempt to rewind the body object so it can be replayed.
Bugfixes
When calling
response.close, the call toclosewill be propagated through to non-urllib3 backends.Fixed issue where the
ALL_PROXYenvironment variable would be preferred over scheme-specific variables likeHTTP_PROXY.Fixed issue where non-UTF8 reason phrases got severely mangled by falling back to decoding using ISO 8859-1 instead.
Fixed a bug where Requests would not correctly correlate cookies set when using custom Host headers if those Host headers did not use the native string type for the platform.
Miscellaneous
Updated bundled urllib3 to 1.19.
Updated bundled certifi certs to 2016.09.26.
2.11.1 (2016-08-17)¶
Bugfixes
Fixed a bug when using
iter_contentwithdecode_unicode=Truefor streamed bodies would raiseAttributeError. This bug was introduced in 2.11.Strip Content-Type and Transfer-Encoding headers from the header block when following a redirect that transforms the verb from POST/PUT to GET.
2.11.0 (2016-08-08)¶
Improvements
Added support for the
ALL_PROXYenvironment variable.Reject header values that contain leading whitespace or newline characters to reduce risk of header smuggling.
Bugfixes
Fixed occasional
TypeErrorwhen attempting to decode a JSON response that occurred in an error case. Now correctly returns aValueError.Requests would incorrectly ignore a non-CIDR IP address in the
NO_PROXYenvironment variables: Requests now treats it as a specific IP.Fixed a bug when sending JSON data that could cause us to encounter obscure OpenSSL errors in certain network conditions (yes, really).
Added type checks to ensure that
iter_contentonly accepts integers andNonefor chunk sizes.Fixed issue where responses whose body had not been fully consumed would have the underlying connection closed but not returned to the connection pool, which could cause Requests to hang in situations where the
HTTPAdapterhad been configured to use a blocking connection pool.
Miscellaneous
Updated bundled urllib3 to 1.16.
Some previous releases accidentally accepted non-strings as acceptable header values. This release does not.
2.10.0 (2016-04-29)¶
New Features
SOCKS Proxy Support! (requires PySocks;
$ pip install requests[socks])
Miscellaneous

Fixed errors when calculating cookie expiration dates in certain locales.
Miscellaneous
Updated bundled urllib3 to 1.13.1.
2.9.0 (2015-12-15)¶
Minor Improvements (Backwards compatible)
The
verifykeyword argument now supports being passed a path to a directory of CA certificates, not just a single-file bundle.Warnings are now emitted when sending files opened in text mode.
Added the 511 Network Authentication Required status code to the status code registry.
Bugfixes
For file-like objects that are not sought to the very beginning, we now send the content length for the number of bytes we will actually read, rather than the total size of the file, allowing partial file uploads.
When uploading file-like objects, if they are empty or have no obvious content length we set
Transfer-Encoding: chunkedrather thanContent-Length: 0.We correctly receive the response in buffered mode when uploading chunked bodies.
We now handle being passed a query string as a bytestring on Python 3, by decoding it as UTF-8.
Sessions are now closed in all cases (exceptional and not) when using the functional API rather than leaking and waiting for the garbage collector to clean them up.
Correctly handle digest auth headers with a malformed
qopdirective that contains no token, by treating it the same as if noqopdirective was provided at all.Minor performance improvements when removing specific cookies by name.
Miscellaneous
Updated urllib3 to 1.13.
2.8.1 (2015-10-13)¶
Bugfixes
Update certificate bundle to match
certifi2015.9.6.2’s weak certificate bundle.Fix a bug in 2.8.0 where requests would raise
ConnectTimeoutinstead ofConnectionErrorWhen using the PreparedRequest flow, requests will now correctly respect the
jsonparameter. Broken in 2.8.0.When using the PreparedRequest flow, requests will now correctly handle a Unicode-string method name on Python 2. Broken in 2.8.0.
2.8.0 (2015-10-05)¶
Minor Improvements (Backwards Compatible)
Requests now supports per-host proxies. This allows the
proxiesdictionary to have entries of the form{'<scheme>://<hostname>': '<proxy>'}. Host-specific proxies will be used in preference to the previously-supported scheme-specific ones, but the previous syntax will continue to work.Response.raise_for_statusnow prints the URL that failed as part of the exception message.requests.utils.get_netrc_authnow takes anraise_errorskwarg, defaulting toFalse. WhenTrue, errors parsing.netrcfiles cause exceptions to be thrown.Change to bundled projects import logic to make it easier to unbundle requests downstream.
Changed the default User-Agent string to avoid leaking data on Linux: now contains only the requests version.
Bugfixes
The
jsonparameter topost()and friends will now only be used if neitherdatanorfilesare present, consistent with the documentation. We now ignore empty fields in the
NO_PROXYenvironment variable.Fixed problem where
httplib.BadStatusLinewould get raised if combiningstream=Truewithcontextlib.closing.Prevented bugs where we would attempt to return the same connection back to the connection pool twice when sending a Chunked body.
Miscellaneous minor internal changes.
Digest Auth support is now thread safe.

2.6.0 (2015-03-14)¶
Bugfixes
CVE-2015-2296: Fix handling of cookies on redirect. Previously a cookie without a host value set would use the hostname for the redirected URL exposing requests users to session fixation attacks and potentially cookie stealing. This was disclosed privately by Matthew Daley of BugFuzz. This affects all versions of requests from v2.1.0 to v2.5.3 (inclusive on both ends).
